What To Know About Kids And Cell Phones

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Have you been considering giving your child a cell phone? It’s not only a trendy device but it allows your child easy access to emergency contacts, and you can also keep track of your child and communicate with them easily. Many children want cell phones as well thanks to popularity and advertising, but parents should be mindful about what kind of features a child’s phone should have.

Many kids have unlimited access to text messaging and the Internet through their cell phones and you will see them constantly looking at and using their phone. This is a whole new world for parents, who didn’t have cell phones when they were younger. So, what is the right age for a child to be given access to a cell phone and permission to text and use the Internet on their phone?

Another thing that you want to think about is the activities that your child will be doing on the cell phone. Depending on how old your child is there are certain things that you may not want them to do or have access to. Young children should have a very limited amount of features to choose from and the phone should mainly be used for calling and emergencies.

You will also want to make sure that your child is careful about whom they give their cell phone number to. As a parent, you will probably not want your child calling or being called by people you don’t know about or approve of.

When adding your child to your cell phone plan and getting them their own cell phone, you will have other considerations, as well. You must think about your plan’s limits in regards to talk minutes and text messaging. Your child will not likely understand that you have limits and they must not overuse their phone for calls or texting. It is important o be careful when getting your child a cell phone so they do not end up in a dangerous situation, having access to something they should not or using their phone too much and costing you a fortune.

Is Couples Counseling Or Therapy Right For You?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Are you looking for a therapist because you’re in a relationship that feels dead or seems to provide only frustration and anger?

Not too many experiences are more painful than deciding to share your life with another person and later finding that you’re struggling to interact with them in a pleasant way.

When it seems your significant other isn’t the person you fell in love with; when it seems the communication gap between you widens daily; when you sense that your relationship is beyond help in the aftermath of infidelity… you’re likely to begin to believe it’s too late to attempt something to preserve your relationship and preserve the love you shared at one time.

Nevertheless, as you’re reading this article, you probably still care enough about your spouse and your relationship to wish to help by any means you can. If that’s so, your relationship is certainly worthy of saving and needs to be given an opportunity to thrive.

Couples counseling and therapy can help you restore the trust and intimacy your relationship once enjoyed. Couples therapy can provide a secure space and the techniques and tools you need to give your relationship a chance of success. Couples therapy can help you and your partner:

Do away with never-ending arguments

Overcome past wounds and hurtful memories

Settle parenting differences

Increase your intimacy and love life

Heal from an affair

Become closer

Take an active, involved and interested role in the life you’ve created together

When thinking about couples counseling and therapy, it’s not unusual to wonder if going to a marriage therapist will actually help.

With this in mind, in recent years research has been undertaken to determine the effectiveness of couples therapy.

Included in an article published by the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, clients of marriage and family therapists from 15 states revealed their experiences with couples therapy. The answers suggest that marriage and family therapists can effectively address many couples problems in a fairly brief time and that patient outcomes and levels of satisfaction are very impressive.

Most couples counselors would agree that a couple’s motivation to make their relationship work is the single most important factor in determining the success of couples counseling. It’s unlikely that even the best couples therapist will be able to save a relationship in which one partner has already decided to leave, and even a mediocre couples therapist is likely to help a couple who are utterly committed to making their relationship work.

Which kind of couples make the most of couples counseling? Apart from those willing to do whatever it takes, the answer seems to be relatively young, non-sexist couples who continue to be in love and are able to be sincere and truthful with one another.

Which couples receive the least benefit from couples counseling? Couples therapy seems to be less successful for couples who wait too long before seeking help, and where one partner is already set on leaving and is closed to any suggestions that may save the relationship.

That having been said, if you and your spouse want to create the very best relationship possible, couples counseling and couples therapy can provide a secure place to examine your relationship, help you locate and overcome any detrimental behaviors, and provide you communication resources and skills to rebuild trust, create intimacy, and rediscover the joy, surprise, and closeness in your relationship.

Subletting Your Home – Things To Know

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

You may wonder what to do with your home if you have to leave it for some time due to reasons like moving out of state temporarily, taking an extended vacation, or relocating for a new job. One option you can decide on is subletting your home to a new tenant.

Frequently, people will decide that subletting their place is a better idea than putting it on the market. The good thing is that it is a temporary fix and will allow you to contemplate any long term adjustment with more time.

If you decide to sublet your home instead of sell it, the property remains under your ownership and you can do what you want with it when you move back in later. You do not need to worry about equities since the new tenant will be the one responsible for your payments.

Local regulations in your area, if there is any may affect your plan to sublet your home. You can verify this by consulting with your local city officials or you may register as a landlord if regulations call for it.

Do a bit of research to find out what the rental price is for comparable properties in the area. This will help you set a rental price for your home.

Be sure to investigate anyone who you may consider subletting your home to make sure they seem reliable. This can greatly reduce the number of potential problems you might run into while subletting.

You have to keep a precise log of when rent is paid, and also be prompt about repairing and maintaining your property. Also, you have to make sure that you give your tenant notice before coming around and ensure that their privacy is respected.

Try to keep in touch with your tenant and develop a good relationship. By doing this you can catch little issues and nip them in the bud.

Parenting Tips On Maintaining Good Understanding

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Parenting and care giving are experiences which are best learned and perfected by experience itself. It is a lifelong process or learning how to do it properly, and much of it Is trial and error. An important job in parenting and care giving is teaching children which behaviors and habits they develop are appropriate and acceptable.

It is common knowledge as to what most people define as acceptable behavior and also if a child requires guidance. Keep in mind, however, that it is not always clear now to communicate guidance and direction.

When explain things to your child, remember that yelling and being aggressive is never the answer. It will escalate matters and make it harder on everyone. It can later on cause the child to develop self-esteem issues, and as a loving parent or caregiver, that is the last thing you want.

If a child isn’t grasping what you are saying, try and understand why. Is it a lack of communication? This could be a simple resolution to the conflict you are having, but a conflict nevertheless.

If a child does not understand what you are saying, try another approach. Use another method that they understand. Use simpler terms. A child cannot mature or improve on something if they do not understand how.

If you use a more advanced word such as ‘technique’, it is likely that the child will not understand what you are saying. Try simpler words, it may produce better results. The child may understand and communicate better with words such as “stay calm” or ” this is okay” if a word such as ‘ technique’ isn’t registering with the child.

Many children will not express the fact that they don’t understand something, and this can be another challenge when trying to change an inappropriate behavior. It is important then that you take measures to make sure that they understand the message you are trying to get across.

Never underestimate the importance of being gentle. Factors like tone, body language, and volume of your voice can play an important part in how the child responds to you.

Enhancing Your Child’s Self-Belief

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Self-esteem is an important factor in any person’s life, and it is often shaped by adults. If you are a parent, it is important to bestow value and self-worth onto your child consistently, starting at a young age. These feelings usually transfer well into adulthood, and help your child thrive.

Many children whom have excellent levels of self-esteem will be able to try new things easier and quicker than other children who have lower levels. This is because that child believes they are capable of anything they put their mind to. This little thought can actually go quite a long way. Many successful individuals will admit that the reason for their results was courtesy of their parents’ actions – always telling them they could do anything they desired.

Perhaps the greatest technique to use when it comes to building self-esteem is providing unconditional love. Your child should be assured and know deep down that you will always love them regardless of what they ever do, think, or say.

Of course, you need to discipline them and let them know whether their actions have been bad, so long as they know that you are angry about the action, not them, so rather than saying, “why are you always so mean to your brother?” say “you should share your toys with your brother more.”

Your kids also have to understand you are always interested in them. If they don’t, then they will feel unimportant and unloved.

When a child asks a question, make sure to give them your full attention. It’s also important not to belittle any thoughts or ideas that your child shares with you, and acknowledge your child’s feelings when they share them with your.

It’s all about positive reinforcement and how you can get your child to believe that he is great for certain reasons and that other people will believe that if he does himself. This is usually the trick for anyone with low self-esteem. The more confidence you have in yourself, the more that will be displayed to others and the more it will be evident to them in the long run.

It’s important to always notice the good things your child does, and comment on them. While you should always make sure that you are being sincere, finding even little things that your child does well and giving them a sincere compliment can give their self-esteem a big boost. It’s also important to be specific in your compliments, such as saying “Thank you for putting away all your toys before going to bed,” instead of just saying “Good job.

Suggestions To Negotiate Lesser Rent With Your Management Company Because Of The Bad Economy

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Negotiating rent can be difficult, especially for individuals; however, during a recession, you will find it much easier to accomplish. Take a peek at how much you are currently paying for rent, and then be prepared to implement a few tips and tricks to get it lower.

When deciding to negotiate your rent, you need to assess what is happening in the local housing market. Usually, you will need to consider the size of the building you are in as well. Most of the time, the less apartments managed by the same person or company, the more amenable to negotiation they are, and vice versa.

Thus, the first thing one should do when planning to negotiate for a rent decrease is to find out if the person one is talking to can actually make the decision or is authorized to lower the rent.

Next, it is time to do some comparison shopping. Doing the research on the current rental rates is essential so you can negotiate better.

For example if rental rates have decreased, you can mention to the landlord or management company that you can easily find a new apartment at lesser rates than your current one. Even if it will take up some of your time, doing comparison shopping in other apartment complexes will give you the exact numbers that you can show on the negotiating table.

During negotiations, mention that your current economic status is the main reason why you are asking for a rent decrease. Highlight how you have been a good tenant who has always paid rent on time and kept the apartment in good condition.

This simple story will show the landlord that you are a responsible tenant and that lowering your rent is their wisest option. If he or she does not, they will need to spend a significant amount of money and valuable time trying to find a new tenant – something that no landlord likes doing during a recession.

Giving lower rent to an existing tenant is always better than having no tenant at all. It makes everyone’s lives easier and makes things run smoother.

What To Expect When Working At The Post Office

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Being a postman has its ups and downs. That’s not all that surprising, no job is perfect of course.

On the down side, you have to wake up very early to get going on your route. Plus, you have to go out in the cold.

The positive side, though, outweighs this. You don’t have to be a scholar to be a mail carrier. You won’t have to spend years in college and a fortune in tuition to have this good job.

A driver’s license will help you get the job, but it is not a requirement. If you are hired as a mail carrier you may be able to deliver on foot or on a bike. You may also get a job sorting mail.

Don’t be discouraged if you start out with minimum wage. This isn’t uncommon, but you will get many raises as you have more experience, time in position, and responsibility.

You can definitely make a decent living as a postal supervisor or manager. When you reach this level you can expect a lot of responsibility like scheduling and organizing teams, delegating duties, doing routes, and the like.

There really aren’t any perks to the job. Some people expect that they will get free postage and then are disappointed. There is no free postage for postal workers. Postal workers are given uniforms though, so you won’t have to worry about using your own clothing at work. You will have different clothes for all kinds of weather since you are going to be out in all climates.

Postal workers generally work every day of the week except Sunday. If there is a bank holiday, they have that day off also. Some periods they may have a busy time, like during tax time with people mailing in returns, or during the Christmas holiday season. Postal workers are expected to work extra shifts during these periods so that mail gets delivered on time despite increased volume.

It’s a great job. The post office is an excellent employer and you will have steady work performing a meaningful service.

Some people worry that postal jobs will dwindle because of email making people mail fewer letters. This isn’t the case. Yes, people use email. But they also do online shopping now, so have to get packages in the mail they otherwise would have gone and picked up in person. There will be postal jobs for plenty of years to come.
