12 Volt To The Caravan Antenna – Checkpoints

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Travelling in a caravan or motor home to discover all the wonderful places around Australia is an amazing adventure. Are you travelling now or plan to take off soon? Have you had the experience of trying to get TV reception in different places? It can be really easy and then it can be almost impossible. Is this your experience?
One seasoned traveller of 30 years told me this, “If you have an antenna with a booster, you have to make sure power is getting to the booster to make it work properly”. I couldn’t believe how easy it was. And that is it in a nutshell.

We ALWAYS like to hear from users of the Saturn Antenna. It is much better to solve the problem while you are travelling rather than wait till you reach home 2 weeks/2 months/2 years later. There is nothing more frustrating for you than to have to endure an antenna that is not working. And there is nothing more disappointing for us to have someone call and say, “We have been travelling for 9 months and the antenna has never worked.”

Two customers were very lucky that we met them on the raod. We were able to stop and work out their problem. In Renmark, one customer had a 12volt problem. No power was reaching the antenna. This is an your first port of calls for someone who has noticed that the Saturn Antenna not working.

Check the INSPECTION HOLE ON THE FRONT OF THE ANTENNA, COVERED BY A BLACK RUBBER BUNG (All antennas made since May 2010 have a clear inspection hole – NO rubber bung). A GREEN LED LIGHT WILL BE VISIBLE IF THE BUNG IS REMOVED AND THE ANTENNA IS HOOKED UP PROPERLY. IT IS SIMPLE, IF THERE IS NO GREEN LIGHT, THERE IS NO POWER TO THE ANTENNA.

12VOLT MUST GET TO THE SATURN ANTENNA FOR IT TO WORK!
It is then necessary to track back where the 12volt is failing – the plugs on the cable attached to the antenna? The cable itself? The TV sockets on the van? The power supply? The 240volt point or the 12volt point? Each of these points needs to be checked. Once you have tracked where the fault lies and repaired that point, the antenna will once again start working.

Happy travelling.

Wireless Internet In Campervans And Motorhomes

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

WiFi in Campervans is a cool thing to have and these days more folks expect it! WiFi is a wireless system that permits Computers with a WiFi adapter to glue to a WiFi access point or router. Once the lightweight PC is hitched up to the access point or router the portable can use the Net. WiFi is available in more places and now you can have WiFi in Campervans.

There are plenty of cafe and bars in urbanized areas that offer free WiFi access to all their clients. Many libraries offer free WiFi access also. There are one or two places where you can pay for WiFi access. There are an increasing number of locations offering free WiFi access. This makes carrying your own portable computer Personal computer an excellent choice.

Some cafeterias, bars and junk food eateries offer free WiFi access with a purchase. A rising number of libraries offer unrestricted access.

It’s actually feasible to find many unsecured WiFi signals in urbanized areas. Secured signals will not allow you to attach without the proper key. However an unsecured one will often permit any one to connect. If you park in a town center or outside of a flat block then you can customarily be prepared to receive many diverse signals. This is a standard way for people to have WiFi in campervans, yes it’s technically illegal, but the chances of becoming caught are terribly small.

Staying connected while you are traveling is starting to become simpler every day. Not only are more firms making WiFi available to their clients, but internet sites are turning up to tell you where you can connect and how. Now many campsites in the United Kingdom and Europe have WiFi. The locations have also expanded. It appears the coffee industry started a trend that most are jumping on board. Offer free net connections to the buyers and they are going to come.

Now you can enjoy dinner or a coffee ( or maybe get your oil replaced ) all while checking your e-mails or speaking away. The governing body has even jumped on board. Some town services ( library, chamber of commerce, town hall ) have free WiFi available to local residents and even just those who are passing by.

Though WiFi connections are catching on, there’s a catch to using them. You need to be a shopper or permitted user. The majority of the links will ask you if you’re sanctioned to use the service and you better be if you’re going to log on. One man, who had been parking outside a local coffee bar to access its WiFi, was detained for burglary.

If the WiFi is truly free then you won’t have to verify anything when you log on. The best thing to do when you are traveling is to do a quick search before you leave. You should be able to find some WiFi connections along the way. Hotels will most likely be wired, but that doesn’t mean it will be free. Many of the places I have stayed at required that you connect through a paid service and so the connection was available but it wasn’t free.

Mobiles with Wifi are fast becoming the way ahead for communication and our mobile telephones and if you don’t have Wifi on your telephone, it is time to start considering it! Lately, the life of mobile telephones as we all know it has changed totally, going from black and white telephones to colour LCD screens, monophonic to polyphonic ring tones, cameras to record calling and much, much more. At the end of 2007 it was claimed that over 70 million folks in the United Kingdom alone had a subscription to a mobile telephone network and with those things that were once thought to be luxuries now changing into a prerequisite, it is beneficial to have the most recent of its type.
